ANYTHING can be faked with photoshop and a flatbed scanner. POINT: Piltdown man! rember when we found the missing link between apes and humans? and remember that it was TOTALLY FAKE?!?!??!!??!?!?!?!? Music and Me

Some say that music is an outlet for stress and anxiety. I don't see it that way. Music is the outlet for the slim-in-numbers, more talented then me people, to express their feelings because they dont know any other way. Music has never been a outlet for me. Maybe it works as a stress reliver for everyone except me. Whatever the case, music, in essence, is just different noises compiled together.

So this picture is by Alex Webb. I did a project on him last year, and i really like him. This picture was taken at an indian market at bombay in 1981. I love how it shows the lower half of the women, but the dominating focal point is the eyes, so they are a compleate person, without being a compleate person

This is also alex webb. This is a compleatly different book. this is a picture of mexicans attempting to cross the boarder, and they got busted by the PoPo. I think that the composition is awesome, with the hands in the air, but i also like that the innocent flowers, contrasted with the not-so-innocent action of sneaking across the boarder. I love his work, because i like his color photos, and i cant find very many good color photographers, and i love his work.

World's second coolest Job

So today, i saw a man, with a leaf-blower, blowing leafs out of the tree. Then, he gets on his drivey lawn mower, and runs them over and they go into thebag deal. I THINK THAT SOUNDS COOL!! it is the worlds second coolest job, behindbeing yoda. Well, geek squad is pretty cool, too. BUt you get to blow the leave oyut of the trees. FUN!
I must say, katie van sleen had the best idea EVER. During my least favorite class, with my least favorite teacher ( THE DEMON MS. GO) we should take pictures during class. Try and get as many as you can. I think that it is sweet, and that we should blog the picture here! we can have a seperate blog, called THE DEMON MS GO, and then we can blog all our pics for the world to see! YAY!!

Hello! So for this assignment, i shot three people. I shot my grandfather, whi has very interesting person, and i will get to more of that in a second. I also shot Alex, who is my go-to model, because she lives near me, and her mother is a photographer so she is very used to getting her picture taken. the third person i shot was...... ME! Except i want tryoing to be me. I was attemting an Actress, who wanted to be a model. It was comical to me, but i think that some of the pictures might be good. I had my Models fill out a questionare, to see if i could capture who they are. I think that helped me, because my grandpa told me that gardining is favorite activity, and his garden is his favorite place. So that is where i took his pictures, and i really think that his pictures turned out well. For Alec, on her questionare, she said her hair was her favorite feature. So i tried to capture her with her hair, trying to play with it, etc. I thought it worked well, thjough not as well as my grandfather and his garden. For myself, i think that they worked out well. I do not pertucularly like them, except i think that it is due to me being in the picture, shown in a light that i do not perticularly enjoy, not because of the images. This assignment i learned that i need to seperate myself even more from my editing and that i need to go one step further in exploiting their inner quailitys. My favorite picture of this bunch it the third one down. I think that the facial expressin is relly who alli is, and that she isn't stiffly posing, but showing her true self to the camera. My least favorite is the one of me, but that is due to reasons that are mentioned above.

Mr slade. This is to you. You got me hooked on blogging! i cant tell f that is good or bad..... Anyway, i was driving and i saw a guy on a motorcycle fiddling with the brake lever. It looked as if it had come loose. That made me a little nervous. If i'm going to be driving around motocycles, i would like thier brakes to function properly. then, i noticed that the entire left side of the bike was compleatly torn up. It was very obvious that he had gotten in an accedent recently. So now i am driving next to a guy who has a history of accedents and a broken brake, and i said to myself, "self, i must flee as far away as possible from this potential car accedent, and then i will blog about it." and here we are.....

Assignment 4 - Light

Soooo, for this shoot, I shot at Mac's house. I shot half of my images at Mac's house, and the other half i shot with artificial light at night. The natural light worked MUCH better for me, the imageid that were yeilded were MUCH much stronger in compsition and technique, that is because instead of photographing what light is, ar jusrt a light, i focused on shooting what light does. That opened up a whole new world (you have permision to start singing) of possibilitys and the results were much better. What I thought worked really well and make the images interesting is finding shadows that cast an inrteresting shape or design, and to photograph that. My personal favorite image is the shadow if the fence. I like it because it has leading lines, but they are not striaght, and they make your eye move. I was concerned about the light that day, because it was very very very flat that day, but the light seems brighter than it actually was. I learned that color blance at night is VERY hard, and that is why you dont see any of those images, beacuse they are not only inferior images, but techniquely unsound. Overall, i really liked this shoot, and i think that i am getting much better at finding a simple image with good compostion.

Dreams and other fun things

I have strange dreams. Once, i dreamed in japanese anime. Another time, i dreamed in tetris. like the game, being played, in my head. Strange, I know. Another time i dreamed i had a pet kangaroo, and we hopped across australia. Nothing to do with photography. However, to compensate, i became observant. I like to make up stories based on observations. Such as, my brother rear ended a woman yesterday, and totalled his car. I decided to observe this woman. She was wearing scrubs, so i figured she was a doctor or a nurse. She had a lanyard around her neck that said PICU PICU PICU..... which I interpreted as pediatric intensive care unit. She works with children. The accedent happened at about 7:35, and i know that the shifts change at 7:30, and it was very close to the university hospital. she had just got through with the graveyard shift. POOR WOMAN! She has been awake all night, and some 17 year old punk just rear ended her, and smashed up her car. So.... the point of that story is that i like to pay attention to detail, and it is the details that make me like images. certain things in the image cause me to love them. like the image above. the butterflies around her head, make me fall in love the images. Rodney smith is very big on the details, and that exactly why i like him so much.

Get on your belly!

For this assignment I shot in two places, alex's house, and my house. Alex's house had much cooler things to look at, but my technique at the second half (my house) was better. At first i had trouble shooting on my belly. you know, unsanitary. plus, i saw a gigantic spider, which was sweet, but it did deter me from laying down. My favorite image is the first shot, with the window. I like it because of the light. the light is very good because it's off center, and it is drawing the eye away from the center. My least favorite is the rocking chair, because it isnt as interesting to me, but i think that part of that is my feelings toward that place. that is in my backyard, and i really dislike going there. I think part of my "list of things to do to improve on my photo skills" is to seperate my feelings that i have as the photographer, and the image. That is my next thing to do (next shoot). But overall this shoot went well. Not amazing, but good.

Assignment 3, Emotions

The class before I shot this was the clas we watched all the depressing journals/documentarys of chernobyl, AIDS in africa, the DRC, and the tequila workers in Mexico. The one that made me cry (yes, i admit it) wsa the documentary of chernobyl. The image of the mother after she learned of her daughter becoming comatosed, and will most likely never wake up, due to the Leukemia brought on by the radiation from the explosion. I will never forget that image. The mother was sobbing, and in very clear agony. That was a very emotional photograph, made even more powerful by the photographers narration of the story. While my model did not suffer anything even close to what this woman endured, I thought about that picture when i was shooting.
This assignment was more challenging than the others in terms of creativity. While not the most time conusming, it was the hardest to convey the emotion. In these pictures, I was going for an emotion akin to hoplessness, or discouragment. My model had had a vewry rough day, so that was the emotion that was the easiest for her to portray. My favorite shot is the image with the girls head on the table. My next favorite, is the one against the rusty background. I improved on the white balance art (yay!) and i think that really helped my images. What went well in the shoot is i was shooting at about 6:20 in the eavning, and i think that the light naturally added to the feeling of hopelessness, because I always think of that time of night to be somber. I wpould however, start shoooting a little earlier because I lost light quickly. overall, a pretty fun and good shoot.

Pictures I like

I just found this one! This is my new top 3 favorite images. I absoulutly love this one because of the rain bouncing on the street, and the crosswalk draws your eye away from the major part of this image, whic is the boy. I also has me questioning/concerning about the boy, because he does not appear to be prepared for the rain, being without a visible umbrella or jacket. all of the other people have an umbrella. that makes him seem out of place, but in a good way. I learned that in bad wheather, taking pictues is still possible, even better than normal sunny wheather. this pic is by trent parke. This is by Henri Cartier-Bresson. I like how it keeps me questioning. I finnaly arrived it was a hole in the wall, and i lo0ve how it isnt staged at all. I think that it is perfect how it wasnt staged at all, and how ui fell that the children dont even know that they are taking the picture. It is a true moment in some peoples live, but it is still. It is archaic in the sense that these people will necver get this moment back, but this moment it still occuring with this photograph. I like how it can be through a hole in the wall, and still be whole.

I love this image. It is also by Henri Cartier-Bresson, and i may be infringing on some copyright laws, except I love how the bike is in motion, and I like how the staircase twists my eye. I Love the curved road, how it isnt straight lines. over all, I give this image an A+. The motion in this picture works because it brings life into the picture.

The 2 above are by Paul Fusco, who was the artist behing the chernobyl documentation. These were the 2 that I thought about during my emotion shoot. I really love these images, even though they both make me feel like crying.
