Robert Capa

These images are by Robert Capa. Robert Capa is regarded as one of the best wartime photographers ever. I learned about him via magnum photographers, which he helped to found. All of his images are intruging and interesting, not just the wartime pictures. Here are my favorites:

I like this image becasue it seems so contradictory. There are women, in fancy dresses, ridintg mopeds, with dust and dirt flying everywhere. It is both a beautifully composed image with the silloutes and the massive dust cloud, but it also makes you think which is the hallmark of a good photograph.

This is one of his wartime images (obviously). While not totally sharp, instead of subtracting to the image it is cxompleatly benificial. It adds to the mistiuqe and sort of forboding of the unkown of war.

This is a fantastic portrait. I have no idea who it is of or why, but he captured who tis person wasd totally. He is laid back, boaderline lazy, and he appears to be wary of someting or someone. Again, one thing that makes this photogrpher so unique is that he makes you think when you see the image. What is this man wary of? Is he in a hospital, and ready to get out? Is he in his barracks, sick and tired of wartime? Or is he simply annoyed by the man taking his picture? these are the questions i think when i see this image.

Again, a fabulous portrait. This man on the other hand looks to be anxious or concerned for someting. Maybe he is sad. We may never know. The lighting in this photogrph is fantastck , the wayt the wrinkles pop out, and give the man character.

I chose this photo because it was just plain intriuging. Why are the men standing like that? It also has awesome leading lines (SLADE) and pattern(SLADE). exciting, i know.

I'm going to take a shjot in the dark here and guess that this is a member of the luftwaffe (German air force) during WWII. This image also has pattern and such. But the thinkg that interests me the most is again the man's expression. He looks smug and sly, but likw he feels guilty about it. I will leave it up to you to decide why.

The composition on this photograph is especially awesome. It has leading lines, a bit of patttern and the subject is eye catching.

Two things:

Robert Capa's most famous photograph isn't here.

and...

The pilot has Nazi Swastikas on his airplane to show how many he has shot down in battle. That is a pilot for the Allies, and he is not smug, he is proud.

Robert Capa's most famous quote:

"If your pictures are not good enough, you are not close enough."
