A good photograph needs to have some sort of personal carry over from the photographer. One can make a good photograph of nameless inanimate objects and faceless people, but the really great photos are created with personal interest and passion. The reason is if people actually care about what they are making it will be much much better than if they were forced to complete things. Great images are made with passion and commitment, which stems from personal interest. A great example of this is Robert Capa. Robert Capa was truly passionate about the documentation of wartime photography and war images and all of his are absolutely amazing. His non-wartime photos are amazing also, but they are not quite up to the caliber of his war images, and the non war ones are more from his awesomeness as a photographer in general than his renown passion for his war photo images. The trick to succeeding in photography is to make passion in the current moment and the current image.
EXAMPLES
wartime:

non-wartime:

Both are really awesome, but the wartime one is hands down much better.
