I used grayscale conversions in lightroom, and i made them diptycs.

This image is from our own Katie Van Sleen. I had my models chose the shoes that ment the most to them for one way or another, and katie choose these. Even though the bottom one is soft (tear), i really like this image. It is such a katie thing to do, and it amazes me that her feet can embody her personality.

This is Alex Cassel. She is on my volleyball team, but she is also really amazing at high jumping (she took 2nd in state). She was really really excited about me shooting her in her spikes, but she was nervous about her barefeet. That really came across. With no possible way to vocally express their shyness, these feet were shy.
This is Meghan Bernstein. She is an exceptional Ballerina, so i had her model in her pointe shoes. Her shoot was probably the easiest, because the shoes already came with a variety of poses, and there was no poking and prodding to make her do something cool. The one with the shoes on was actuially not my favoite image of the with shoes, but it was the one that went the best with the barefoot one. If you would like to so the best image, i will post it momentarrily.

This is David Beesley. It is widely known that david is very adament about going to church, and is very passionate about his religon. I decided that the shoes that embody him the best are his chuch shoes. He won the award for the weirdest feet, but his images were some of the strongest of the bunch. His weirdness added to the quality of the images, though he would probably disagree.

This is emma sindelar. Emma plays soccer. Alot. She decided that her feet are best described with cleats, so that is what i shot her in. Her images are not my favorite, but the barefoot one is in my top three.

This is Charlie Shaw, who runs cross country for colorado college. He won the award for the most confident about his feet, which made him easy to shoot. He had been painting during the day, and was excited to show off his paint feet.

Alexandra Macfarlane is a very fashionable person. She loves her shoes like I love my computer, which is hard to do. Her choice was her red pumps, which fit her persona perfectly. Her pose is my favorite of the bunch. It reminded me of a classy 50s movie star. I'm not totally sure why, though.
The most interesting part of this project was that even though the shoe was "who the person was", the barefoot reveald more about the person, inadversatintly. They were shy, showing off and disgusted. It was so interesting to me to see that people do not need accesories to show off who they really are.

Emily, you did an AMAZING job on this project. Feet could easily have been a boring topic, but you made sure it wasn't. I love the double picture idea. It is amazing how revealing the bare-feet really are. My favorites are Charlie Shaw's and Alex's. They were great images and had meaning. you did a great job, you should be very proud. Congrats!! Have a GREAT summer!
Great Job Emily. These are beautiful images. I love them. You continue to show how great you are as a photographer in our class, and these just take the cake. I thought feet would be very boring, but I was very wrong. These are clean, perfectly shot, and edited images. Great Job Emily, these a wonderful.
You must continue this, Em. Not even joking. I really love this idea and how you captured it, instead of just doing feet, and doing it half-assed. I love that you used studio lighting and everything too. This is really awesome and I can see a different personality in each different set of feet. Nice fake statistics, by the way.
Wow, that first one is awesome! Who's sexy feet are those???
emily........what can i say your an amazing photographer, your idea had meaning and a point, and you portrayed that in your pictures. The fact you made the models choose their favorite shoes made me see more about that person, and their personality before reading the discription below, its really well done!!!
I am hurt that your favorite isn't mine, Sam.
Sigh : P
You mentioned how tragic life would be without feet. I think you should find a double-amputee and see if they will let you photograph them for this series.
It is well done.
A few thoughts: Don't let the background get in the way of the feet. Play with selective focus...a few shots the feet are sharp and the background is also. There are a few bare-feet photos that are posed almost the same. I know it's hard to get unique poses of feet and you did do a great job.
I also like the fact that you wanted to present them in a unique way and took the time to learn how to do it.
Technically you are very competent. Take it to the next level.
Emily: these are truly fantastic. They look professional, put together, and beautiful. each tells a unique story about the person being shot. I know a lot of your "feet models" and their pictures truly do embody them. its fantastic. i love your photography. keep it up.
Emily, you did an amazing job. It was a really cool idea to put the bare feet together with the shoes it really showed their personalities. i think this is your best work that ive seen!! nice job!!
